Asking Smoke a question

Press ask to put a question to Smoke about everything you can see — all your pages at once, rather than the one you are standing on.

The question people actually have is “where is this, across everything”, and that is the one a page-scoped answer cannot give.

What it draws on

Every line on every page you are a member of, your own drafts, and — if you have connected them — your own mail and calendar. Consent is unchanged: it can see exactly what you can see, and nothing else.

What comes back

A short answer, and references you can follow. Every reference points at a real line on a real page; one Smoke could not resolve is dropped rather than shown as a link to nothing.

It is yours

Nothing is stored. The exchange lives for as long as the panel is open and goes when it closes. Nobody else can see the question or the answer, and there is no way to ask on somebody else’s behalf.

The page you have open orders the material — what you are looking at comes first — but it never limits it.
