Connecting Gmail and Calendar

Smoke works with nothing connected. Connecting a mailbox or a calendar makes its reads sharper, and it is entirely optional.

Connecting grants nothing on its own

This is the part worth understanding. Connecting an account does not switch anything on. Smoke reads a source on a page only where you have switched that source on for that page. A connected mailbox that no page draws from is a mailbox nothing reads.

So the sequence is: connect the account, then choose which pages it feeds.

What it reads

Recent messages and meetings, and only to inform your own private read of your own pages.

Mail is distilled to a line about what happened and what is owed — the message itself is not kept. No human reads any of it, none of it trains a model, and none of it is ever shown to a colleague.

Several accounts

You can connect more than one, and they are separate. “My work mail but not my personal one” is a per-account choice, which is why the unit is an account rather than a provider.

Disconnecting

Disconnect an account and Smoke forgets our copy and the material it fed. You can also withdraw Smoke’s access at Google in the same act, which ends its scopes for that Google account — other accounts you have connected are untouched.
